RAM 3500 Diesel Fuel Cap

RAM 3500 Diesel Fuel Cap

thingiverse

This is a fuel cap for the capless diesel filler neck on the 2014 RAM 3500. It's an exact replica of the cheap plastic one that comes on the truck from the factory (you can see it in the photos for comparison) but sometimes the dealer will throw them out or they might get lost. Technically the filler neck doesn't need a cap (it's meant to be capless) but some people like to leave the little plastic cap on there to prevent sand or snow from getting in the filler neck (even though the fuel door itself has a rubber seal to prevent such things). WARNING: I have no idea if ABS or PLA or whatever-your-3D-printer-uses is safe around diesel/gasoline. If you print one you should test it by letting it soak in some fuel for a while before actually using it. I'd hate for it to dissolve and get in your fuel tank if you accidently splash some fuel on it. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! Instructions Printed on a Makerbot Replicator 2X with just one extruder with Makerbot Dark Sanguine Red. Printed with the "Standard" profile in Makerware with 100 shells (so the entire thing is made of circles) and 120 degree build plate (in my 2X I get the best results when printing directly on the kapton tape at 120 degrees). Printed without rafts or supports (which is why the top lip isn't perfectly smooth - there were no supports underneath when it was printed - I'm amazed it even worked! :))
