Since I'm using OctoPrint on a Raspberry Pi, it made perfect sense to opt for an RPi cam over a separate webcam. This v 1.3 cam rides along with the print head as it moves up and down the Z-axis. Don't anticipate outstanding images - the pi-cam itself has limitations, and the printer's vibrations can cause the cam to wobble. Nevertheless, it's sufficient for monitoring the printing progress.
