Raspi Zero Housing for BK-G4 Gas Meter (Version 2)

Raspi Zero Housing for BK-G4 Gas Meter (Version 2)

This project started with the rising gas prices. I wanted to have much better resolution of the gas usage in my house. Understanding when gas is burned should give me a better idea how to save it.

The standard gas meters (in my case the BK-G4T) usually have a magnet rotating with the last digit. Means you can capture the position of the magnet with a reed contact.

The housing of the gas meter has an opening to fit a sensor, and right there this raspi case places the reed contact. The housing itself is clamped to the gas meter, thats where you´ll need the tiny “knob” model.

Assembly of the case requires

4* M2.5*6mm

7* M2.5*8mm

1* M2.5*12mm

1* M2.5*20mm

14* M2.5 Nuts

so just get a pack of M2.5 screws ;)

For the electrical part I used a plastics 14x2.5mm Reed contact. This size fits well into the slot. Easy to find on Amazon or an electronics shop.

The model prints nicely on my MK3S+.

You´ll probably need to clean the notches where the nuts are placed, but that´s it.

If you´re looking for Python3 code (incl. Grafana Dashboard) to make the whole thingy run on a Raspberry Zero W: You can check my GitHub for that.
