SUBMISSION DETAILS:Mass = 4.98 kgMax Teeth Engagement = 74 mmMax Drum Diameter = 450 mmMax Drum Length = 343 mm (Excess length for mounting)MAX CAPABLE VOLUME = 33.2 LSuggested Build Materials:-PEEK (Teeth Baffle Assem., Teeth Edge Ext., Washer Plate)-Aluminum 6061-T4 (M10 Plate Threads)-Titanium (M10 Hardware)-Polycarbonate (Drum Base/Lid)Design Summary:The focus of this design is to design for rapid manufacturability on lunar or space environments. As such, PEEK was chosen as the main build material for the purpose of using aerospace grade FDM that is survivable in harsh thermal environments, while also having decent abrasion resistance. Aluminum and titanium hardware are used to prioritize strength while not jeopardizing mass limitations. Polycarbonate end pieces are used so that the amount of regolith collected is observable. All plastic parts are easily able to be printed and routed from filament and stock respectively. The intended fill ratio is to be able to carry around 85% of 33.2 L in order to account for regolith that may be lost during transport by RASSOR.Design Considerations/Future Work:-The plastics used have minimum service temperatures that are not able to withstand less than -100 degrees C, but they will definitely survive the highest temperatures on the moon or in space (greater than 120 C).-If desired, the design can be thinned out to become an aluminum sheet metal assembly at the cost of additional mass. This will also slightly increase carrying capacity.-If both the teeth and the baffle assembly are created from PEEK, their designs can be consolidated into a single piece. -A Simulation was attempted, but granular simulation was not successful (may update later).-Weight savings can still be improved upon based on component design (slimming). Alternate material selection will also affect this.-The UV damage resistance of polycarbonate will require a protective film or coating to further protect it in space.FAVORITE design quality:Ease of Manufacturability.MOST CONCERNING design quality:Mechanical properties in sub -100 C conditions. Thank You and good luck to everyone.
