Ratcheted Pulley

Ratcheted Pulley

I needed a specific pulley for a system to help my grandfather bring items up and down the stairs. It is essentially a basket attached to a rope that is hooked onto 4 pulleys. 2 of them are just for tension, but at the top and bottom of the stairs is a large pulley with a handle on it. This is one of them. I put this one on the bottom of the stairs. The ratchet system allows the basket to be cranked upward, but not fall back down. It allows my 98 year old grandfather to carry small items up and down the stairs. I'm currently working on a motorized system, but having the ratchet as a safety measure was still a good idea. The hole in one of the spokes is for a small piece of PVC pipe that makes a handle. It's a snug fit, and i just secured it with some super glue. Because it took me a while to make, and because the geometry is sort of unique, I thought I'd share it with the world.
