Rattle Popper Fishing Lure

Rattle Popper Fishing Lure

thingiverse

This is a common popper fishing lure design, combined with a few metal BBs for a rattle effect. I have uploaded both the full file and the sliced ones. I have had good results printing the two sliced files with no supports. Please read the post-printing instructions for information on how to assemble it. The fully assembled lure requires super glue, 3 small screw style eyelets (the ones I am using measure ~1.7 mm diameter around the threads and ~6.7 mm OD of the eyelet hole), 2 treble hooks, and a hula skirt. I will continue to update the files as I do more testing with it. I will also be uploading a version with both hooks mounted on the bottom, rather than one in the tail, soon. If you catch any monsters with this lure, please share pictures! Print Settings Printer Brand: RepRap Printer: Prusa i3 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: .2 Infill: 0-5% Notes: I print with 4-5 shells for strength and water tightness, the infill must stay low for the lure to be buoyant enough to stay on the surface. Post-Printing Assemble First, place some metal BBs in the empty cavity of the lure. I use 3-4 but this can be adjusted for preference. Then, using super glue, bond the two halves of the lure together, being sure to line up the BB cavities. Be sure to not use too much glue or it may run into the cavity and glue the BBs together. For the same reason, avoid shaking the lure while the glue sets, just stand it on end so the BBs will not come in contact with the glue. Once the glue has set, the eyelets must be prepared. There are two options for this, one involves using needle nose pliers to bend the eyelet open and then closed again after hooking it through the treble hook. The second option is to use some small ringlets (similar to what is on a keychain) to secure the hooks. I have been using option #1 and it has worked out well and eliminates the need for the ringlet. Then add a drop of super glue to the tip of the screw-ends of the eyelets and screw them into the holes. One of the hooks goes on the bottom, the other goes on the very end of the tail. A plain eyelet (w/o a hook) is screwed into the mouth of the lure for connecting a swivel. Finally, a hula skirt can be cut, wrapped around, and glued to the tail post on the lure. Usage This lure is designed for catching bass, but can be used for most predatory fish. Cast the lure into shaded and well covered areas around downed trees or close to shore. Do not real in one fluid motion, rather jerk the line backwards which should cause the lure to create a "popping" sound similar to a frog.
