Razor Tube Cutter

Razor Tube Cutter

In my business, I need to cut precise lengths of heat-shrink tubing, with nice clean, straight ends. I looked at all the tubing cutter designs here on Thingiverse, and the good ones all require hardware like springs and bolts. I wanted one that can use the same single-edge razor blades used in razor scrapers, and no other hardware. WARNING: Razor blades can injure you. They should be handled with care and kept out of reach of children. Use this design at your own risk. It is important to slice this model with settings that will prevent printer travel moves that cross over the slot where the razor blade goes. The slot is so narrow that it would be difficult to clean out any stringing there, and you might not be able to get the razor into the slot. The red Push PLA shown in the photos tends to print fat, and then shrink while cooling, which forced me to make the blade slot pretty wide to keep it from closing up during printing. If your print ends up with the slot so wide that the blade could wobble, use narrow strips of tape on the blade, one or more layers, to fill the extra space. Use just enough tape so that the blade slides into the slot but won't come out when tilted. Layer Height = .2mm Perimeters = 3 minimum Speed = 25mm/s Travel speed = 130mm/s Infill = 100% Concentric No Support Extrusion Width = .6mm (my Orion nozzle is .5mm) Fan and retraction settings will depend upon your material. The Backstop simply friction-fits onto the cutter at whatever distance you need. I included the BackstopBase file so people could add their own cylindrical tube holder for whatever size tubing they need. Note that there is limited headroom with the cutter fully closed (about 9mm), so if you need to cut larger tubing you might try the "more space" version of the cutter.
