<h1> Story</h1> <p>This is a long-overdue continuation on my airfoil study. This is a completed wing with full internal structural supports (I'll lighten the supports up later). As you might notice, there are no provisions made for flaps or ailerons. Sure, the cutouts are there, but good luck mounting any control surfaces to it. This was just a test for functional performance. I wanted to see how the printing would go, how the glue-up would go, and how strong the wing would be afterward.</p> <p> Please excuse the poor gluing technique. I was using some different off-the-shelf CA and have since purchased some good Medium CA with accelerator. From one of the pictures, you can see the blend/curve into the washout from root-to-tip. I'm not sure if I like using the Trailing Edge (TE) as the pivot point, but my research indicated that was preferable. Please, if you know otherwise, let me know. </p> <p> This wing will NOT twist at all. Heck, it doesn't even flex. I printed in PLA for rigidity, but now I might give PETG a try. As sturdy as this thing is, if PETG can give it a little flex, that would be great! <p> <p>Oh, and the best part of this print? -- You don't need any special slicing software. Straight-up Slic3r will work. No funky print settings either. Just make sure your printer is well-calibrated, as these are all thin-walled prints. </p> <h1> Details </h1> <ul> <li>Length: ~800mm</li> <li>Airfoil: 2412</li> <li>Root Chord: 260mm</li> <li>Root thickness: 100% (so roughly 31mm)</li> <li>Wingtip Blend: I think it was 80%, I'll have to check</li> <li>Washout: 3* starting 1/3rd out from root. Pivot point on Trailing Edge</li> <li>Wingtip: Hoerner</li> </ul> <h1> NEXT </h1> <ul> <li>Flaps</li> <li><ul><li>As you can see, they are going to be a hybrid split-flap.</li> <li>I'm also going to engineer it such that those hybrid split-flaps will actually be a hybrid split/slotted flap if all things go well.</li></ul> <li>I obviously still have to make the ailerons and flaps</li> <li>As strong as the wing is glued together, I might still put a CF tube halfway through the wing. This would also make mounting to the fuselage a lot simpler.</li> <li>Still have to finish the fuselage</li> <li>I need to work on making better alignment tabs. The ones I have on there now are very simple. Sure, they work, but they aren't the best at getting the exacting alignment I want.</li> </ul>
