24 Nov - Updates to the full ABS version with a 1400mm wing span also available http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:33732 06 Nov - Slight tweaks to the rudder and tail fin... nothing that could not be done during the fitting process, just a minor refinement. 04 Nov - To avoid any confusion I have reduced the nunmber of files here and published a separate model for the full ABS version. 1 Nov - Updated nose cone / engine mount. 30 Oct - Instructions updated. Based on a cub / trainer design aircraft, this thing is under construction to be a fully printable remote control aircraft. More pics and the rest of the design to come as soon as I get a couple of parts from Hong Kong to complete the fuselage. The default pic is the assembled hull plus wings, pending reinforcement of the nose section with carbon tissue and then the heat shrink skin over the rest of the body. Instructions 30 Oct - V3 rear stabiliser and matching rudder added. Increased surface area and more aerodynamic profile. 27 Oct - added a nose cone to go with the tail section.. no more foam .. !!! big hooray here.. ! also have added a more aerodynamic version of the stabiliser and control surface. I have tested all of the components for this model, its incredibly strong easy to fly and forgiving in a crash. AUW is around 520g, depending on motor, esc and battery selection. Version 2 fuselage, with an ABS nose and tail section adds around 200g.. (am refinihng these prints), but is still within the power range for the standard motor and prop. Have trashed 2 foam models in flight and crash testing the of the components, none of which have broken or failed. Always happy to see someone with much more experience than me at this take it to a new level.. :). There is a lot of material in the main structural component of the plane, the battery and servo housing, as experience has taught me that its this part of the structure which cops most of the force in a crash. While the designs can always be refined, this is the structure which will retain the battery and without ripping the electronics out in the event of a sudden stop. Please note the instructions are a guide... they will include pics of each stage and notes where required re print settings. The printed parts are generally designed to fit tight, so some drilling or trimming is required to get a the appropriate fit, along with a few spots of super glue. You will need some familiarity with the process of building and wiring models of this type. Links are included in the instructions for the parts I have used, with variation for performace, battery life and AUW easily accommodated. All parts are printed using ABS. Good luck.. and enjoy.. :)
