Recessed Outlet & Cable Box - Behind TV

thingiverse

Recessed outlet and cable box to completely hide cables behind the wall in the back of your TV/Monitor/Whatever and allows the screen to be flush with the wall (as long as the cable inputs to the screen are recessed too, otherwise it sticks off the wall 1-3in). Housing code pretty much everywhere requires that no HIGH-power cables (i.e. TV power) are run behind the wall, so you will need 2 complete prints of this. If you only plan on running LOW-power cables (HDMI, VGA, Ethernet), you can potential cut off the outlet side of this and print two of those, however your power cord will still be visible. This contains drywall flanges to pinch the box to the drywall, that work...sometimes. I might just use standard drywall screws w/ drywall anchor if I do it again. What you'll need if there is not already a power outlet behind your screen: -2x standard OLD construction electrical boxes. This isn't the one I got but I think this is the right size: (https://www.amazon.com/Carlon-B114R-UPC-Switch-Outlet-8-Inch/dp/B0002HLYLK/ref=sr_1_6?crid=2AWGBBN9WQDQF&keywords=outlet+box&qid=1663465813&sprefix=outlet+box%2Caps%2C137&sr=8-6) -~10ft Romex to run to the new out (must be the same gauge as the existing romex or this becomes a fire hazard) -One new outlet (make sure to match the old outlet style or just buy two of the same) -1/8 screw ~2-4inches. I used wood screws but the drywall flanges fit 1/8 screws -Drywall Saw -Possibly a hack-saw with some of the blade sticking out or a reciprocating saw (to cut out the old electrical box which is nailed perpendicular, and inside the wall - hence the "new" construction name) -Drill - Makes everything a lot easier If you plan on installing this yourself, TURN OFF THE POWER. The curves around the outside can be used with a marker to mark the wall. To use the drywall flange: cut the box at the same spot as the screw holes so both the screw and flange fit under the drywall. Push it in and screw closed. To use with drywall anchors: cut the drywall hole just big enough to fit the recessed portion, install the anchor, and drive the screw.
