Reconstruction of an Anglo-Saxon work box

sketchfab

This model depicts a decorated cylindrical bronze box found in the burial of an Anglo-Saxon woman in a cemetery excavated at Bulford. The vessel is of a type referred to as a ‘work box’, ‘thread box’ or ‘relic box’; whatever its use it would have been a valued personal possession. Dating so far has suggested the cemetery site to be from the 7th–8th century AD. The model was produced from scratch using traditional archaeological illustration techniques to record the various details from the original object which, due to it’s fragile nature, hasn’t so far been recorded using photogrammetry. Using these measured sketches, the model was built in 3DS Max with the decorative detail sculpted in zBrush. Model built using Autodesk 3DS Max 2015, Pixologic zBrush 4r7, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
