This Hand Assistive Device has been designed to be utilized by stroke patients undergoing rehabilitation as an assistive device at home. Recovering stroke patients have shown great levels of improvement if they follow physical rehabilitation procedures over the first three months after the incident. Therefore a device like this is important because it gives the survivor the means to become as close to being independent again while returning home or undergoing therapy at an institution. This device is meant to help firmly grab objects for short or long periods of time. Our goal while prototyping was to obtain parts that will withstand wear and the forces applied to the device while in use. TPU was used for the Finger Unit, the piece’s design and material’s flexibility will allow people with different hand sizes to be able to wear it. For fast prototyping, PLA was used for the Wrist unit and the Finger splint. PETG was used for the pulling handle to increase its strength.
