Remix of Moon Lamp for the Prusa Mini printer

This is a remix of Frank Deschner's moon lamp to work on the Prusa Mini.

I have always wanted a moon lamp and seeing that the only files available were designed for larger printers than the Prusa Mini, I tried to modify an existing design to work with my printer. The moon is unmodified except for a scaling factor, but the stand I had to modify to accommodate a light bulb of the same size without interfering with the original bayonet lock design. The stand might not be perfectly symmetric, but once it is attached to the moon it isn't noticeable at all.

I've printed two of these so far with no issues. I expect to give several of these away in the next couple of months :)

Note: I haven't tried printing my attached scaled down version of the moon. I printed directly from the original post's moon and scaled down in Prusa Slicer for just my print. I see no reason why it shouldn't work, though.

Part descriptions:

Moon Stand

The attached stand file is a modified version of the original. It is scaled down in the x/y direction by 85% so that it fits the moon printed at 85% and the z-direction is about the same so that the lamp has a good height for the lamp stand. I blended an adapter into the stand so that it doesn't interfere with the locking mechanism, and had to cut a bigger hole through the middle of the stand to allow for the lamp kit adapter to fit.

Note: you may need to file down the locking nubs on the actual adapter as it is quite a tight fit into the moon.

Moon Globe

The attached moon file is just the original moon scaled down to 85% (no need to further scale if you're using my file). If you already have the original moon file, you can scale yours down to 85% on your own as well.

Note: you may need to carefully file the inside of the locking mechanism as the stand-moon connection is very tight and you can potentially break the stand or the moon by trying to over tighten.

Lamp Kit

I modified the smaller lamp stand to fit the original E26/27 light bulb adapters suggested in the original post. Using this kit, I had to take the ring adapter that screws onto the base and use pliers to break off the outer diameter to get it to fit inside the moon (see one of my pictures of just the modified ring). Amazon link.

Light bulbs

A regular sized light bulb is too big for this smaller moon. I settled on a low power smaller bulb (but with E26 base) that is just the right brightness that doesn't get hot enough to melt the moon. You can use any light bulb you like, though, as long as it fits the above lamp kit (if using) and fits inside the globe. Amazon link.

Print settings:

Stand

Using the original post's settings works fine:

Infill: 30 % cubic

Shell: 3 perimeters for good stability

Layer: 0,15 mm

Supports: no

Moon

Using the original post's settings:

Infill: 100 % or solid 4-5 perimeters

Layer: 0,2 mm

Supports: No! :)

Filament used in my files:

Stand: Overture black PLA (Amazon link)

Moon: Hatchbox white PLA (Amazon link)

Print time:

Stand: about 5 hours

Moon: about 35 hours
