RepRap Mendel extruder mount

RepRap Mendel extruder mount

The default RepRapPro Mendel method of mounting the extruder with three tab clips is pretty bad; it's very floppy, the front clip can't be pulled up on properly, and it mounts the motor low enough that you can't use the full height of the printer. This part replaces the 2mm thick spacer and sits with four U-shaped feet on to both top bars, resulting in the motor being about 10mm higher. Instructions Buy some M3x16mm caps, washers and plain nuts Separate the extruder drive from its motor From the bottom of the two bolts that the filament enters between remve the washers. They stop the extruder drive from sitting flat Discard the square 2mm thick spacer plate Put nuts in each of the four feet, and use four bolts to temporarily hold them in place Slide the motor in place Remove the four bolts (the motor will now hold the nuts in place) Turn over and place the extruder drive in top, and bolt through this part into the motor in the same way as the spacer plate you discarded Place on the top bars Put a bolt and washer through each of the four feet to secure. Tightening will pull the two prongs of the feet together, closing it up and preventing the assembly from lifting.
