the resonance tube is used in the speed of sound experiment. Students use an app to generate audio tones. The smartphone is placed at the open end of the tube and the piston is slid back and forth until a resonant tone is heard. The location of the piston is marked with a dry-erase marker. Student are instructed to find as many resonant tones as possible. This is part of a kit that was developed for remote lab instruction during COVID. The tube is a fluorescent guard tube found at any hardware store. It is cut to 22" to fit into a shipping box. The piston rod is a 1/4" x 24" wood dowel.
