In August 1881 Kittredge helped establish "Oriental House" in New York. The Museum illustrated the Middle East's geography and biblical history as part of the Chautauqua Assembly, a Christian education movement. Kittredge was a regional secretary for the American Branch of the Egypt Exploration Fund and he rescued 456 minor antiquities from them in 1886-87. The Museum closed in 1905 but what happened to the Egyptian collection remains a mystery.
