RichRap's 3DR - Modified for 8mm Rod and 20mm Box section (Squared Wood, Extruded Aluminium or Box Section Steel)

This is a modification of RichRaps excellent 3DR, a Delta type RepRap, These files have been modified from the default design to allow 8mm diameter rods to replace the 6mm rods of Rich's default design. The original design was exclusively compatible with extruded aluminium (Misumi / 2020 style) whereas this version will build up with practically anything This allows for a much taller machine to be built while not suffering from bearing rod deflection.NEWLY ADDED - A complete model (STL) of a "fully" assembled 3DR for physical reference - BIGGERER(!) Top and Bottom platform Extensions A work in progress version of the micro platform built around the E3D Kraken. An alternate Vertical Carriage with a touch extra clearance for variations in LM8UUs or printed bushings The primary other change is that the frame has been modified to accept 20mm square box section (much easier to source worldwide - B&Q's easy in the UK), or indeed 20mm square wood as this is FAR more accessible worldwide that extruded aluminium, though in theory almost any material should suffice as long as it has enough lateral strength - I dare someone try carbon fibre poles! Sizing the rods up to 8mm more than compensates for any structural strength lost by switching out the extruded aluminium for softer materials. So much so, that using high enough quality Steel rods - one can forgo using the 20mm upright legs altogether if you wish... Files included are RichRaps complete (printed) parts list for the 3DR, with direct replacements for the (originally) 6mm parts. Also included are the files for Ichibey's damn useful rod assembly jig (thing:166605) and the files for Pablogill's 3DR extensions (thing:194631) As well as my own design of BIGGERER extensions ( http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:215740 ) - All these should allow you to increase the print area of the 3DR in the simplest manner possible... YET ANOTHER ADDENDUM Richraps' Generally suggested quick calculation for rod lengths is 0.8 x Horizontal distance between the vertical posts (Vp). [which by my tape measure is ~330mm] Other Delta designs go off 2xR Using both equations gives us: 2xR = 256mm (R~128mm approx) OR 0.8xVp = 264mm A difference of 8mm. As long as the rods are all the same length once assembled +/- up to 10mm isn't a problem, You should be fine tuning your firmware to compensate for tolerance variations anyway. Hope This Helps! P.S. The 3D model uploaded for visual reference is 1000mm tall on the Vertical pillars - this makes no difference to the above calculations, but as someone else asked me why the proportions seem different to the vanilla 3DR, I thought i'd clarify that here.. All credit and 'props' where it's due, without his sweat and swearing there would probably be no 'true' Delta Repraps, Just Repstraps..
