Rietveld Steltman Chair

Rietveld Steltman Chair

This chair takes its name from the jeweler Steltman who commissioned Rietveld in 1963 to redesign his shop in The Hague. Rietveld designed two chairs where clients could sit when they selected their jewelry. The chairs were each other’s mirror image and formed a unit with the counter. The original versions were covered in white faux leather. After Rietveld’s death in 1964, his former assistant Gerard van de Groenekan produced a version in wood, which has now become more famous than the leather original.
