Rifle Controller for HTC Vive

Rifle Controller for HTC Vive

thingiverse

A rifle controller for use with the HTC Vive VR headset and room scale controllers. This Thing is based on remixes of several Things listed in the Remix Sources section below. The Rifle Controller for HTC Vive has been tested with H3VR (http://h3vr.com/). Aside from the exceptions listed in the Known Issues section below, the rifle shoulder stock nearly perfectly aligns with the in-game rifle stocks. In order to use this controller properly, you must first grab the front of the in-game rifle just before placing the front controller into the controller holder. Once the rifle is held with two hands and controllers are in place, the rifle will align properly in the game and provide a steady, immersive, and more accurate in-game experience. Due to CC licensing compatibility, the requires bolts/nuts and rifle stock parts are not included with this Thing. To obtain the other required parts: Bolt & nut - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1696645 Rifle shoulder stock - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1696655 The fully assembled rifle controller requires 14 bolts and nuts. Print Settings Printer Brand: MakerGear Printer: M2 Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.2 mm Infill: 50% Notes: Some parts will require supports from the bed. Post-Printing If using full supports, or depending upon the accuracy of your printer calibration, you may need to file away some of the plastic in the bolt holes to allow for better alignment for the plastic bolts. Assembly Considerations Please be gentle when assembling as some parts may crack/break under stress if using too much force. When in doubt, file/sand where appropriate. I was able to fully assemble the rifle with only a small amount of filing to ease the insertion of the plastic bolts which are fragile. Note that the bolts are not intended to "squeeze" components so take care not to over-torque. The printed bolts are intended to simply hold parts in place and add stability. If your print requires squeezing parts of the plastic, consider using metal bolts or plastic shims to provide stability. Assembly Instructions Print each component that is part of this Thing. Print the shoulder stock Thing located here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1696655 Print 14 x nuts and bolts located here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1696645 Alternatively purchase metal bolts - 4.5Mx30mm bolts and 4.5M nuts Using the photos included with this Thing as a reference, assemble the parts using the plastic (or metal) bolts Optionally attach a strap to the strap holder loops found on the Stock Attachment and Front Barrel parts Load up H3VR, Out of Ammo, or your favorite Vive compatible shooter and achieve new high scores! How I Designed This This part was remixed using Autodesk 123D Design Remix Sources Nut & bolt - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:193647 Shoulder Stock - https://tinkercad.com/things/0arKMQnQear Rifle controller components - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1642874 Known Issues In H3VR, when using the Sako 85 you may need to remove the Vive remotes from the controller in order to reload. This is due to the rifle stock parts getting in the way. Also with the Sako 85 you may find the rifle doesn't line up perfectly. It seems the bolt action rifle in H3VR has slightly different alignment than the M4A1, AK, etc.
