Needed additional stuff: 18 LEDs, standard, 5mm diameter, white, directional. 18 SMD resistors (0805 will do) 3 M3 setscrews (6-10mm) Summary This is ring light I designed for my Delta Optical SZ-450B stereo microscope but it can be used for any microscope with 60mm outer diameter and working distance 5-15cm (9cm optimal, depends on LEDs really). 18 resistors should be connected, their value depend on your power supply. In case of Delta Optical stereo microscope I mounted switch on original top LED light and used stock PSU, which is current limiting. I used 1.2 ohm resistors just to have more even power draw on all LEDs. You can adjust working distance during main body print clean-up. LED holes usually need to be drilled / filed / reamed so you can force a bit of inwards or outwards angle while doing that. LEDs should be glued into body! Setscrew holes can (should) be tapped to M3 or equivalent imperial size. Hex setscrews recommended. Cable output hole should be drilled in the cap wherever convenient. There is no real need to glue cap and body but you can if you want. If you have such or similar Delta microscope, I highly recommend installing UV filter under the lens, preferably multicoated. The purpose of that is simple. It's way easier to cleanup mess from the filter, than from the lens. Also if you're working with things that could potentially damage optics, filter is way cheaper that microscope ;) I designed M50x0.75 -> M46x0.75 thread adaptor for that purpose, to use standard size photographic filters. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4235168 Please note that this is also easy way to mount polarizer!
