Ringflash/Ringlight Mounts For Macro Photography

Ringflash/Ringlight Mounts For Macro Photography

These are mounting rings for the common 48 LED ringlight/ringflash battery powered units sold online (Flashpoint, Godox, Lightdow, etc.) These units sell for $30-$40 and come with a variety of mounting rings for various filter sizes with 49-77 mm screw threads to mount the actual light to the front of a lens. The included rings work fine for this configuration, but often don't help when you want to use the light for macro photography. There are a few common methods for setting up a camera for macro use. Some setups use a bellows attachment such as the Nikon PB-6 with the camera mounted on the back end of the bellows and some sort of lens mounted on the front end. You can get higher magnification with a prime lens mounted in reverse but then there is no real way to attach the ringlight. That's where this mount helps. There are three variations of the mount included here. 1. Plain mount with no center hole; you can import this into your choice of CAD program and add a custom size hole for your specific application. 2. Mount with an M42 x 1.00 mm thread (the old Pentax standard screw thread for mounting the light on the back end of a "Pentax" style lens). 3. Mount with a center hole to press fit on an Amscope Plan 4 microscope objective (4x magnification). Note there are a wide variety of inexpensive 4x microscope objectives as well as extremely expensive ones available online and the outer diameter of these objectives is NOT standardized even though their mounting threads mostly are. There are several excellent videos and blogs online teaching basics and advanced macro photography. BTW - If you want to use Nikon F-mount lenses in a reverse mounted macro photography setup, buy a Nikon BR-3 Adapter Ring (it mounts to the back of the F-mount lens and has a female 52mm thread on the other end that allows you to use the 52mm adapter ring that comes with these lights.)
