The RMS Lusitania was briefly the largest ocean liner in the world and hold of the Blue Riband. She was built in the early 1900s by the Cunard line and launched in 1906. She got passengers from Europe to the US and made 202 Atlantic ocean crossings. On 7 May 1915 she was torpedoed and sunk off the coast of Ireland by a German U-boat submarine. This torpedoing of a passenger liner killing many Americans was the final straw that brought America into the War on the side of the British and French.
