Rokid Air Clip-On Light Blocker and Reflection Guards

thingiverse

This is a light blocker and pair of alternate reflection guards that I created for the Rokid Air glasses. These glasses actually ship with a pair of reflection guards that help reduce reflections from below, but they are extremely difficult to install and remove. My 3D printed alternatives are much easier to install and remove, and also do a much better job of blocking reflections from below. The glasses really should have shipped with a clip-on light blocker, but for whatever reason they did not, and as a result, if there are bright light sources in the direction you are looking, they can be seen through the video image. The 3D printed light blocker addresses this. DETAILS ======= In order to attach the 3D printable light blocker [2mmx4mm magnets](https://www.amazon.com/MEALOS-Magnets-4mmx2mm-Miniatures-Storage/dp/B08NZS7WBK/ref=sr_1_3_sspa?crid=14O50PFJCD0ZJ&keywords=2x4+magnets&qid=1658361888&sprefix=2x4+magnets%2Caps%2C118&sr=8-3-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyTzNHNEFPMzBQV1hXJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMDI0NTYzMVlWWE9CTlc1QjVRNCZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNjMxODkzMzlNSk0wRU1PUlZaWSZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=) need to be glued to the light blocker itself as well as to the back side of the front lens visor of the glasses. To remove the lens visor, remove the two screws holding it in place from the back, and then gently pull it loose. It is held in place with some adhesive in a few spots, so a little force may be required to separate it the first time, but it should come loose without too much effort. It can be a bit tricky to get the magnets placed correctly on the back side of the lens visor. I glued the magnets to the printed light blocker first, and then used that to hold a magnet in place on the back side of the visor so that I could mark each location with a pencil outline. I then glued the magnets to the back side of the visor. Be careful to mind the polarity of each of the magnets when you glue them in place so that they each pull together rather than pushing apart. There is a place to attach 4 magnets across the top, and a 5th above the nose piece. That 5th magnet by the nose bridge was originally intended to be used with an alternate 3D printed nose piece, but I didn't end up using this. The blocker attaches and stays in place just fine using only the top 4 magnets across the top. I used gel superglue to attach each of the magnets. WARNING: The vapors from superglue can etch plastic, including lenses. I masked off both sides of the visor (transparent parts) with painters' tape before starting the process of gluing the magnets in place. I also kept the glasses themselves with their optics well clear of the visor and light blocker while I was working with the superglue, and also waited until the glue was dry and all fumes dissipated before re-installing the visor or using the clip-on light blocker with the glasses. The reflection guards have tabs that slide between the visor guard and the back side of the lens assembly. The thin edge slides between the side of the lens and the nose piece, and it wraps around and is held in place mostly by friction fit. Once installed, I have not had problems with them popping off, but they are very easy to remove when you don't want to use them. I added a bit of velvet tape to the back side of a portion of the reflection guards to further eliminate any reflections from the guards themselves. I imagine felt tape would work just as well and is a bit cheaper than velvet tape, but I had the velvet tape on hand. As these parts need to be soft and flexible, I printed them all using TPU. The parts are thin enough that they may also work if printed in PLA, but I have not tested this.
