no supports needed. 90% infill

Had a silly idea that actually kinda worked out: Trash PET 3D printed rollerblade brakes!

I rollerblade a lot on VERY ROUGH ROADS in the rainforest. My brake pads die quickly and shipping+replacing is annoying. Now i can turn old bottles into new pads!

You can, of course, use a rubber filament like TPU to give you better performance like a normal skate brake, but i wanted to see if i could turn garbage into a brake pad.

A challenge was making it strong enough. My first test just had 10% infill and eroded completely halfway down a steep hill (not very fun). But 90% infill now is a big difference!

Maybe someone will have good suggestions for infill patterns that will be best for braking? or ways to make composite materials?

To recycle trash to make this PET filament, i built a

http://recreator3d.com/ and used my stringer ( https://www.printables.com/model/221589-motorized-plastic-bottle-string-slicer ) to turn trash into filament!

Now i can print all day!

Microplastics

Of course the very first thing someone is gonna get grumpy about is MICROPLASTICS. HOW DARE YOU TURN PETROLEUM PRODUCTS INTO ROAD DIRT!!

But i think people don't understand "rubber" in tires and brakes is a kind of plastic polymer too! often made from styrene and butadiene, which don't seem a lot nicer than PET (and is yet another way cars pollute) correct me if anyone knows better, but PET seems a lot more inert.

Of course the downside is: this plastic isn't the softest and nicest for braking, but i mostly just use it for going down a couple REAL BIG HILLS which grind through the brake anyway, and it's free and maybe less toxic for the environment?

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! DON'T RELY ON THIS FOR YOUR SAFETY!

Full fusion 360 project available here

https://a360.co/3RfYVSm
