Rolltop Round Box
thingiverse
As a kid, I was captivated by my dad's antique rolltop desk, so I decided to upgrade my design skills by crafting a box with a retractable top. I'm not sure how practical it is, but I certainly had a blast creating it. The rolltop should be printed at .1mm thickness, as it features tiny chain links to secure the slats together. The other two pieces can be printed in draft quality if desired. Assemble the parts and apply a bead of CA (superglue) on the interior cavity where the main shell and the left side intersect. I find that a gap-filling CA works better for this type of project (search for "medium CA" or "thick CA" on Amazon). I've included the openJsCad source files, which have key variables at the top of each file to adjust the dimensions. Both the main shell and the side are housed in the box.jscad file, where you can toggle between them at the end. Note: I used Prusa's Slic3r to generate gcode, but then encountered an issue with it cutting off the top retaining lip when rendering the side. I ultimately switched to Cura to slice that part successfully.
