Roman bow brooch

This cast copper alloy Roman brooch of the Aesica type dates to the 1st century AD. The brooch fragment was found in part of an enclosure that held livestock. The brooch has a hook on the back and a distinctive bowshape on the front which then expands out on each side (with the intact side retaining its decorative knop). These diagnostic features help us to categorise the style of the broochand possibly where it was made; the style is East Anglian, so this could be a fairly well travelled item.
