Rotary Cutter Guide Jig

This is a tool which uses a rotary cutter blade to cut in a straight line. It uses 3/4" x 1.5" Cellular PVC board as a guide. Quilter's templates are attached to the bottom of the PVC board by double-sided foam tape to assist with alignment of the cutter and provide something to hold while sliding the cutter jig down the PVC board. I taped together the quilter's templates to get the desired size, 24" in my case. Then I aligned the quilter's templates with the PVC board and attached them with double-sided foam tape so the first grid line on the template would be cut by the rotary cutter blade. Then I cut the excess of the template off with the first pass of the cutter jig. This gives a nice visual alignment guide so it is easy to see where subsequent cuts will be done. I have need to cut 4mm thick PVC tile in strips. Having done this before with a utility knife, I looked for something to compensate for my lack of skill in cutting straight lines. I found that my wife's rotary cutter works very well. So, I created this jig to more easily guide the rotary blade in straight lines. This also works well for cutting foam board. Two jigs are provided, one with the blade extending 9mm and another with it extending 6mm, so you can choose the one to use based on the thickness of the objects being cut. There are two keeps designed that can attach to the end of the PVC board. One keep allows the rotary cutter jig to be magnetically held while doing multiple cuts. This keep doesn't allow the blade protector to be installed on the jig. The other simple keep just holds the jig with or without the blade protector installed. This uses the blade, screw, and nut from a 45mm rotary cutter. I used the Fiskars cutter, but others may work.
