Rotary Tool Accessories

A rotary tool is practically essential in any model based hobby. There are many top quality units such as Dremel on the market, but for occasional use, the Drill Master 80 piece kit from Harbor Freight, that is frequently on sale for $7, is mostly adequate. It does, however, lack speed control and a organizer for the accessories, so I decided to make my own. I also designed a holder that could be secured to the work bench with screws or “C” clamps to firmly hold the unit in a fixed position. In my initial design I used a tie wrap to secure the unit in the holder, but modified the design to use a sliding member to clamp on the tapered body. I left the tie wrap feature so you can use either one. The accessory holder has compartments to hold the 3 containers that come with the kit and 25 holes to stow the various tools. The speed control is based upon components (see pictures) I purchased from AliExpress for less than $4. The connectors snap into the housing and are retained by the bottom, which is secured to the main enclosure by 4 #2 x 3/8” sheet metal screws. All the connections are screw type (no soldering required) and the motor and power supply units connect with the OE connectors.
