Rowing shell boat navigation light

A navigation light for your single, double, or 4, or 8 so that you can be seen during early morning practices. Easy to build for $20, similar to lights that cost $60. This looks like it should be bright enough, but it would also be possible to design one with two lights on each side. Please leave me feedback! Instructions Requires: two "Life Gear" brand glow sticks - one red (port), one green (starboard). 4 copies of this part two #8 pan-head screws, 2 inches long, stainless steel two #8 nuts, stainless a white plastic card to hold the sticks. About 1.5mm thick, strong enough to support the weight and thick enough to fit securely in the card holder of the boat. The one I have pictured has not been cut down to size yet. The spacing of this unit should fit with your existing cards. Locking is accomplished by a slightly tight fit with this piece - you will need a screwdriver to assemble this. Please note that the Life Gear lights turn off automatically after approximately one hour. Do not use this light in a situation (such as > 30 minutes before dawn) where this shutoff would be a problem because it would be extremely hard to reach the light to turn it back on. The "right-side-up" version prints with a clean portion that contacts the lights, but a messier portion near the screw holes. The overhang isn't correctly printed with my version of slic3r, but it's in a non-critical area. Pull out the extra plastic with pliers. The "upside-down" version prints with a clean screw hole, but is messier near the area that contacts the flashlights. It may also be more prone to popping off the bed. Both version will work; try them both! (you've got to print 4 anyway) Links to the glow stick on Amazon ($5-6 each, free shipping if order > $25). I found this at my local hardware store for $5.http://www.amazon.com/Life-Gear-Glow-Stick-Flashlight/dp/B0044Z3Y78/http://www.amazon.com/Life-Gear-Stick-Flashlight-Green/dp/B004D2WZ5E/http://www.amazon.com/Glow-GLOWSTICK-GRN-FLASHLITE-PPWGLOWSTICKG/dp/B001G27C98/ They make a "waterproof" version of this product, and it looks like it would fit, but I have not verified this. The normal ones that I use come with an o-ring to seal them and look like they could take an occasional splash. -- This light has not been designed to meet any safety or navigation standard and the appropriateness for any application must be decided by the user.
