The Royal House Order of Hohenzollern was founded on January 18, 1851, the 150th anniversary of Frederick I's coronation as the first Prussian king. This happened as a result of the State Treaty of 1849. The House Order of Hohenzollern has consisted of 2 orders since then. 1. the princely house order of Hohenzollern and 2. the royal house order of the kings of Prussia. Both house orders exist independently and separately from each other. The Royal House Order of Hohenzollern is divided into two sections, cross and eagle, each awarded in three classes (Grand Commander, Commander and Knight). The 4th class of owners was not added for both departments until 1861. Another expansion was the star for Grand Commander and Commander, which were donated on October 18, 1861. The eagle class was given mainly to civilians such as teachers and clergymen. The awards were mostly made to deserving public servants on retirement. Both sections of crosses and eagles could be worn side by side. When reaching a higher class within the department, the lower one had to be discarded. The knights' eagles are hollow and composed of 2 parts. The early pieces by court jeweler Hossauer are enamelled on one side and slightly curved. The later pieces are flat and enameled on both sides. The knights' eagles were made in gold until around 1916. There were also copies made of gold-plated silver. No other materials were used. After the borrower died, the eagles had to be returned. Order in the form of a standing eagle made of gold. The eagle is bordered with gold and enamelled in black. The head is surrounded by a round ring. On top of the hoop there is a soldered eyelet with a ribbon ring.
