Royal Naval dress uniform belonging to local man Bredin Delap. Bredin joined the Royal Navy in 1913 and served throughout the First World War. He was stationed on board HMS Onslaught during the Battle of Jutland, the largest naval battle of WWI. During the battle, the bridge of the ship received heavy gunfire after firing 4 torpedoes. The Commanding Officer, 1st Lieutenant and Gunner were among those killed and, as Sub-Lieutenant at the time, Bredin assumed command and safely brought the ship back to harbour. He remained in the Navy until 1923 before gaining work as a Captain on board the ships laying cables across the Atlantic.
