Here is my example of repairing and upgrading an old marine. I acquired Captain Crabb from eBay, with his armor stripped off or missing and hastily repaired with green stuff. I replaced his backpack and shoulder pad, then upgraded his primary weapon to a bolter, which is more practical than the hand flamer he originally had.
