RubikCuboctahedron
thingiverse
This is a puzzle that has been in my possession for approximately 30 years. I've spent considerable time searching, but it appears that no one else has this particular model anymore. Customizable models don't quite replicate the original design to my liking. The first picture shows you what the original puzzle looks like, so you can compare your results. Initially, I attempted to create a custom version using a Rubik's cube found online, but the results were unsatisfactory. As such, I've made several modifications to ensure a good fit. This is not a speed model, so please exercise caution when handling it. As this is a work in progress, I plan to continue improving it by reducing friction to achieve smoother motion. Pieces required: 1. Core (RC_CoreJC02) 6. Centers (RC_center01) 6. Plugs (Plugs05) 8. Corner pieces (RC_corner01A) or (RC_corner02D) 12 Edges (RC_Edge01) For the corners, there are two separate files: 1. The first is a piece (RC_corner01A), which can be printed easily if you have an optimized printer. 2. The second (RC_corner02D) has additional support in areas where slicer programs may not consider it necessary. These parts are marked in red and labeled as "remove this part" in one of the pictures. You will also need six 3mm bolts and 3mm springs to be inserted into the center pieces, ensuring smooth rotation. The holes in the centers can be covered with stickers or the provided small plugs (six of which I printed hollow). The core and edge pieces are best printed with supports. I plan to update this model with special stickers and various geometric designs. Any comments will be greatly appreciated.
