Ruger 10-22 Extended Magazine Release

Ruger 10-22 Extended Magazine Release

Thought I'd try to make an extended mag release for my Ruger 10-22 Takedown. 15 cents worth of PETG versus $20-$40 for a commercial one made it seem like a nobrainer to try. Is it great? Eh. Does it work? Yes. Are you going to use it during a zombie apocalypse? (really?) But it's good for a range toy and primarily just because. NOTE: This fits over the standard Ruger magazine release. What they call the current shipping extended version, the ones with about a 1/2" of tab that sticks down from the stock in front of the trigger guard. On my sample versions of a Ruger magazine release it's a decent friction fit although I'll just put a drop of superglue on it to keep it on there. You could also drill it and set screw it but that seems a little overkill. The purpose is to make it easier to do a magazine change. You can use your middle finger fairly easily to drop the lever without changing your grip too much. Note that a Ruger 10-22 is not what you'd call a combat ready weapon, the mags will not drop out unless they're just super loose. This really is a "just because I have a 3D printer so I can" type build. The part that fits over the magazine release is slotted to clear the retention pin on the magazines. It fits my Ruger BX25 trigger and the original stock trigger group fairly closely. It's not 'exact' I just eyeballed it when I was designing in. Print Settings Printer: MendelMax 3 Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: .25 Infill: 20% Notes: Printed fine for me at 240C extruder, 60C bed, 60mm/s with the bed coated with 3DEez. Supports are necessary and can be a bit of a pain to pull out of the hole but they do come using some needle nose with just a bit of persuasion. Post-Printing Clean out the support and shove it over your magazine release. If it all looks good and you can release magazines then call it day. If you want longer term connectivity then clean the magazine release with some barrel blast or brake cleaner or acetone then put a cuople of drops of superglue on it, I use Gorilla superglue gel which seems to work pretty well and then shove the release on it. To remove if you super glued it, take your magazine release out of your trigger group and drop it in acetone.
