Ruixin Pro RX-008 Knife sharpener Upgrades

Updated - 28 April 2021 This is my Leadingedge system Upgrades for the Ruixin Pro RX-008 sharpening jig. It allows you to sharpen blades with a magnetic holder, scissors, chisels, large kitchen knives and many other tools. It enables Convex blade sharpening if you need to. It also allows you to use various sharpening stone types and sizes with the Ruixin RX-008. My Fine tuning adapter is designed for accurate micro angle adjustment to allow very precise sharpening, and I also combined it with a sharpening guide rod holder. Very handy to keep it out of the way while rotating your knife or inspecting your sharpening. The fine tuning adapter bottom part locks onto the vertical rod with a M4 thumb screw, and the top part rotates up and down for extremely precise angle adjustment. The Platform Table clamps into your RX-008 clamp, to give you the option of having a magnetic holder for sharpening full flat ground knives, Scissors and other blades that do not work well with the original RX-008 rotating clamp. The knife guide is a 3-point guide for precise positioning of your blade when you have to manually flip it over while sharpening. The 3 large recess holes are for three round neodymium magnets (12mmx3mm) exact size is important, some vendors sell slightly different sized magnets. The vertical knife guide is for high saber / scandi type grinds (with a small flat ground section) to stabilise it and stop it from pivoting over the magnets while sharpening. (See photos) The Scissors clamp is designed to work in a cantilever clamping method to tightly clamp your scissors blade for sharpening. The top 2 screws in the scissors clamp are only for holding it in position (No need to over-tighten the top 2 screws) and the bottom thumb screw effectively forces the bottom part of the clamp open, which cantilevers the top part of the clamp to firmly clamp your scissors blade in position. When using my chisel sharpening adapter, zero reference your level from the bottom of the chisel blade, then adjust the angle down towards your desired sharpening angle. Parts needed for assembly: 9 x M4 brass threaded inserts 4 x M4 thumb screws (3x10mm long and 1x15mm long) 4 x M4 screws (2x20mm long and 2x30mm long) 1 x M4 short as possible grub screw (For the handle) 3 x Neodymium round magnets (12mmx3mm) (EXACT size needed) 6 x Neodymium round magnets (12x3mm) (For my Optional Large Blade attachment) ASSEMBLY: Install the following Brass Threaded Inserts: 3 x M4 inserts in the 3 small 5mm holes of the platform table. 1 x M4 insert in the BOTTOM hole of the Scissors clamp only. 1 x M4 insert in the small 5mm hole of the bottom part of the fine tuning adapter/holder. 1 x M4 insert in the small hole of the Handle. 1 x M4 insert in the Adjustable stone clamp. 1 x M4 insert into the Handle. 2 x M4 inserts into the holes in the upper large part of the Chisel Adapter. Magnets: Use a tiny bit of 2 part epoxy or equivalent to glue your 3mmx12mm round neodymium magnets into their slots. I HIGHLY recommend using some rubberised clear tape over the top of the platform after installing the magnets, and also a small strip of the same rubberised tape on the inside of the scissors and chisel clamp. This gives a nice grip to the clamps, makes for easy cleaning and it protects your blades. I personally use clear ISC racers "helicopter" tape or even Gorilla Crystal clear tape. To install the handle, just remove your current RX-008 handle and replace it with the new ball handle. Use a small M4 grub screw to lock it into place. I do not suggest glueing it into place, because you may want to remove it again at some stage. I suggest replacing the original stone clamps with my set of Adjustable stone clamps. They work much better than the original stone clamps, and will enable you to use many different stone sizes. Make sure to install a brass insert and thumb screw into the front clamp so you can move it forward or backwards and lock it into place for your desired stone size. I you want to install my Convex sharpening adapter, then remove the rear stone clamp (closest to your handle) and replace it with the Convex adapter. NOTES: For more information, photos and assembly notes of my Leadingedge sharpening systems, click on my links at the bottom of this summary. I based this RX-008 design on my Leadingedge sharpening system, and it works in a similar way. Make sure to print with NO supports for the threads of the fine tuning adapter, or it will be impossible to remove the supports from the threads. UPDATES: 5 Sep 2020: I added the magnetic table platform with knife guides and scissors sharpening clamp for the RX-008 system. 6 Sep 2020: I added a ball shape handle to replace the original RX-008 handle. A ball shaped handle works much better ergonomically than the original RX-008 handle. 7 Sep 2020: Updated the holder + fine tuning adapter to V2. This works better when the fine tuning adapter is screwed further out towards its limit. With the first version, it was not possible to hook the horizontal sharpening rod into its rest position when the fine tuning adapter is screwed further out to its max position. 8 Sep 2020: Updated the ball shape handle with a small hole for a brass threaded insert so it can be locked into position with a small M4 grub screw. 3 Oct 2020: I added an optional "Large blade attachment" that screws into the scissors clamp holes and significantly widens your platform for longer blade sharpening. You will need 6 neodymium magnets (12mmx3mm round) for the 6 holes. 29 Oct 2020: Updated the holder + fine tuning adapter to V3. Better threading and more comfortable knurling. 7 January 2021: I added my Chisel sharpening adapter. 22 January 2021: I added an adapter for Convex angle sharpening. 22 January 2021: Added a set of Adjustable stone holders to enable to RX-008 to work with smaller sharpening stones. 24 January 2021: I made a small design change to the Large blade attachment and the Vertical knife support. 1 February 2021: I added some extra braces to the main body platform. No real functional changes, just additional added strength. 11 March 2021: Fixed an error with the magnet cut-out holes in the main platform table. 31 March 2021: Updated the holder / fine tuning adapter for easier printing. 4 April 2021 - I slightly enlarged the magnet holes to accommodate inaccuracies in magnet supplier sizes. 28 April 2021 - Updated an error with the Fine tuning adapter / rod holder.
