RV Onan Genset Access Cover Retainers

Onan genset covers are held in place by two flanged pins that push into rubber retaining grommets. The grommets dry out due to the genset heat which allows the access cover to shake loose when driving down a bumpy road. The cover falls off. They even provide a nice big slot for the cover to fall to the road without you knowing it happened. Onan sells a lot of replacement covers. And you cannot buy the decals to make your replacement cover look like the factory version. Trust me. I tried. Attach these retainers to the genset bay door and align them where the pins and grommets are located on the access door. I used silicone adhesive but double-sided tape should work, too. Cut pool noodles to the appropriate length so they just touch the access cover when the bay door is closed. Close the bay door and you will never lose your genset cover which costs about $120.00. Easy peasy installation tip: Tape a pool noodle holder to the genset access cover right over where the flanged pin and rubber grommet is located. Cut a pool noodle, mount it on the taped retainer and test the length for fit by closing the bay door, leaving a bit of excess so the bay door is barely propped open. Apply glue or double-sided tape to another retainer. This one will be attached to the bay door. Slip the glued retainer into the mounted pool noodle. Close the bay door and leave there until the glue has set. After the glue has dried remove the tape from the locating retainer. Repeat the process for the other side. You will need to print a 3rd retainer to complete this step. Keep trimming the pool noodles until you have the perfect fit.
