I converted by gas powered TB516EC sidewalk edger to a 40VDC powered edger using parts from a Ryobi 40V brushless chainsaw (Model #RY40530). The chainsaw came with a battery connector assembly and just needed a box to be able to securley hold the battery. I designed the box in tinkercad and it came out pretty good. I marked the object as Public in Tinkercad if you need to mess with it. Just search up "Ryobi 40v battery connector box". I mounted the box to the edger chasis with a couple of self-tapping screws. I also created the pulley to drive the edgers blade. It works with a 200J4 Poly V Belt: 3/8" Wide, 4 rib drive belt. Metric diesgnation is PJ508-4 Rib. Ill probably reprint in ABS but it is working fine right now. The edger is lighter with the 40v motor but seems to have more power. Controls are a work in progress. The chainsaw has a variable speed switch that sends the signal to the soft start. I only need a single speed so I bypassed the potentiometer on the trigger switch with a toggle switch and a 100 ohm resistor. Eventually Ill move the swith up to the handle and get rid of the trigger switch altogether. Pretty happy so far with this project.
