Salmon Skin Test

Salmon Skin Test

I went through countless stepper motors and drivers to see what would improve the salmon skin effect i was seeing on my printer. The goal here is to print this in vase mode and print it as fast as you can to test ringing and to also see what speeds your printer does and doesn’t like with resonant frequencies of the belt system. See the difference when you print slow and compare it to fast and everywhere in between. Slice this at 100mm's and slow it down mid print on your printer so you can compare top and bottom results on the fly. Setting linear advance / pressure advance can be seen on the sharp corners. Input shaping can be tested when printing fast at the 90 degree corners. How well you can print a curve (salmon skin problems) shows on the back and how straight your walls are show on the front and right. Print this with the pointy part on the bed. I will be amazed if anyone actually downloads and makes this but i figured i would add it to my collection and share my expereance If anyone is interested here are my results. Things I did try on my sovol SV04 Upgraded to BTT Octopus V1.1 TMC5160 on XY (16, 32, 64,128 microsteps with and without interpolation) TMC2130 on XY (16, 32, 64,128 microsteps with and without interpolation) TMC2209 on XY (16, 32, 64,128 microsteps with and without interpolation) MKS Closed loop servos (second worst salmon skin even with their SERVO42C model) BTT closed loop servos (worst salmon skin even with their S42C) JMC Nema 17 closed loop servo (don’t try this unless your really good a tuning a cheap servo motor, this was a headache and a waste of money) Undersized XY motors (Usongshine 17HS4401) Super Over kill XY motors (42HD8011-01) 0.9 stepper on XY (Usongshine 17HS44015-0.9) I ended up with using TMC2229’s at 32 microsteps no interpolation, Stealth Chop ON (Same print quality as TMC2209’s but have lower heat loss in the chip) and amazon el chepo 0.9 deg steppers. Seemed to work the best for me when I was using my old cartesian style printer. I also found that the TMC2226's don’t like linier advance when using stealth chop, For some reason the 2209's seem to take it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08ZYNHR74/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
