Sand Table

This is a machine that draws in sand. Inspired by Bruce Shapiro's Sisyphus but without any idea how his mechanism actually works. It does a pretty good job of creating sand drawings and there is a blog post about it here http://robdobson.com/2017/02/a-line-in-the-sand/ Print Settings Printer Brand: Ultimaker Printer: Ultimaker Original Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: Doesn't Matter Resolution: 0.1mm Infill: Some solid parts are 75% but most 20% Notes: I printed the pinion gear in nylon (onto blue tape) and it worked much better than a PLA version The gears are printed at 75% infill The laser cut parts include a rack cut out of 3mm acrylic - I tried 5mm but couldn't get the teeth to cut cleanly without adjacent teeth melting - 3mm worked ok How I Designed This Blog Post Have a look at http://robdobson.com/2017/02/a-line-in-the-sand/ for more details
