I was having mixed results with the stones that the original tool was built around. You can buy wet/dry sandpaper at your local box store. Im using 3M sandpapers in grits from 320 to 3000 and its putting a nice edge on faster than the chinese stones were. Sandpaper is adhered to the block using a bit of 3M 45 spray adhesive.
