My second entry for this amazing challenge is a little bit similar to my first entry. Now I use totaly 5 parts, whereby four components are a part with fivehelical spring elements, for adjusting and fixation the egg in axial and radial direction, for eggs with different sizes. The design looks like a diving bell without a watertight sealing.A preliminary calculation for dimensioning the spring elements:Height of fall: 4,5 mMass of egg: 0,075 kgPotential energy of egg: 3,3 J (Joule) = Nm = WsEnergy of a spring: E = c/2 * s^2s = Spring deflectionc = Spring rateFor example:c = (2 * E) / s^2E = 3,3 Nms = 0,010 mc = 66 N/mmSuch a big spring rate to realize with springs, made of plastic material,is rather improbably. However, I think, my new concept is better suitable than my first entry, to change the kinetic energy of the falling egg into the work of a spring.Spring elements are finally not calculated resp. no FEM-analysis done. The result of my design - may be, because not yet tested - is another concept only.If you fill the complete cavity of the ball with sawdust or something similar- after assembling the egg - I think that the egg has a little chance moreto withstand the free fall.Model available in the following data formats:STEP-file (.stp) of the complete assembly (5 components and egg included)STL-files of the 3 components for 3D-printingNative data (.prt) and (.asm) in a "zipped" folder for users of»PTC Creo Parametric 2.0«Thank you for your attention!
