Scan-O-Tron Turntable v.2.0 for Full Body 3D Scanning

thingiverse

A 3D scanning turntable capable of supporting the weight of one or more human beings (I think its good to over 800 lbs as long as the weight is evenly distributed). To be used in conjunction with The Scan-O-Tron 3000 http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:127968 as a low cost, quick and high quality scanning system for creating 3D printable full body scans. This 2.0 design replaces my previous design Heavy Duty Lazy Susan for Full Body Scanning http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:28454 by improving from a belt drive mechanism to a chain and sprocket drive powered by a worm gear motor. This ensures the tabletop is locked for better loading and unloading of subjects. This is the hardware design that I use in the Scan-A-Rama 3D Portrait Studio http://scanarama3d.com. I recommend ReconstructMe as scanning software for doing full body scans, but Skanect is another great option. http://youtu.be/2c_Pa0ppzV0 Scan cleanup routine with Netfabb basic:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZVc-CpVLrs Instructions I uploaded a series of images detailing the process. Parts utilize include 3/4" plywood Car Hub for lode bearing bearing (I used Wheel Hub Assembly Fit for BMW 525I 528I 530I 540I Z8 Front) Number 25 electric scooter chain (I bought this from http://www.electricscooterparts.com/chain25.html) 16 Tooth 8mm Bore Sprocket For #25 Chain (SPR-2516) from http://www.electricscooterparts.com/sprockets25chain-motor.html 90 Tooth Rear Sprocket For #25 Chain (SPR-2590) from http://www.electricscooterparts.com/sprockets25chain-wheel.html • Electric Motor -12V DC Motor, 3-4RPM High Torque Electric Power Turbo Reducer Worm Geared Reversible #uxcell https://www.ebay.com/itm/12V-DC-Motor-High-Torque-Electric-Power-Turbo-Reducer-Worm-Geared-Reversible-/272654018898?roken=cUgayN&soutkn=cSBzD7 12 volt AC/DC adapter I use a foot pedal switch such as http://www.harborfreight.com/power-maintained-foot-switch-96618.html to turn on and off the turntable while scanning. You will need a chain breaker tool, a socket wrench, and a bunch of 3/8" lag bolts with washers and nuts. A router to cut your circles is also great. Cut list from 3/4" plywood 28" square 2- 28" circles 2- 6 1/2" circles 15" square, with circle for the hub cut in the center 15" circle Ream out the 2 6 1/2" circles so the large sprocket can be sandwiched fluch between them. Bolt together the car hub, 6 1/2" circle, large sprocket, other 6 1/2" circle, and 15" circle with 3/8" bolts. Glue and screw together the 28" square and 15" square, the bolt the hub to it with 3/8" bolts. Screw 4 2x4 feet on the corners of the large square. Use some 2x4 to build a small frame around the 15" square and drill 4 holes in it. Mount the motor to a piece of 2x4 and put the small sprocket on the motor. Use the chain breaker to cut a piece of chain to go around both sprockets and then rejoin the chain. Drill matching 4 holes in the 2x4 with the motor and put long bolts through so that each 2x4 has a pair of bolts around it and you can adjust the tension on the chain to pull it tight. Glue and screw together the 2 28" circles. Drill holes and bolt the 28" circles to the 15" circle on the hub.
