This is an early version of what was to become the Voith-Schneider propeller, with a different kinematic mechanism. The inner brass ring is fixed in space resulting in the cyclic movement of all blades. Its position determines the direction and size of thrust, and is controlled by a mechanism not shown.Modelled after drawing in the 1942 U.S. patent lodged in 1940.
