VR-ready Full scale anatomically correct model of the exterior of the National Gallery. I am currently reproducing Edinburgh’s New Town area as a full-scale virtual reality environment. This has involved surveying the area with ground-based photogrammetry (~15K photos resulting in a ‘Normal’ quality model in RealityCapture of ~400M tris). From the photogrammetry models were derived schematics of the architectural structures in the area (elevations, exterior plans). These schematics were used to facilitate analyses of the structures in respect of overall geometry, e.g. the building shown here can be analysed down to several repeating shapes and several cross-sections extruded translationally or rotationally. Analysis was also performed in regard to named architectural features, which involved cross-referencing a building’s features with old architectural pattern books, then using those books to inform the clean geometric reproduction of the feature. More details to follow as I gradually complete the work!
