From Tom Swift and his Sonic Boom Trap - What do we know about the screaming meemies? The sound in the blitzes was generated by little devices Bud christened the 'screaming meemies.' The devices were pretty clever: if the sound generators were located in one spot someone might locate them, so they mounted them on little drone helicopters and flew them all around the city. A moving sound generator is a lot harder to find than one mounted in one place, and before it could be found the attacks were cut short and the devices flown back home.
