Screwless Key Holders

EDIT 8/22/16: Renamed some of the files for more clarity and updated the instructions below to be more helpful. Also added shims for the short version that I forgot to include.

I love Marrrs' Screwless Key Holder design so I decided to make my own. This version is sized to fit the 8" zip ties (just under 1/8" or 4mm wide if you're shopping for some) that are easier to find here in the States (I really wish we used metrics more commonly here) and features some slight cosmetic changes.

Included are two versions of the key holder, one that is roughly the same size as Marrrs' and another that is more compact to make it easier to carry. All parts of Marrrs' kit are included and I've also added some extras:

USB bushing to allow the addition of a flash drive, specifically this one

flat version of part B to make the whole thing thinner

more

I've also included files for my Stub Key Holder, a simpler system that uses the same zip tie principle. This key holder is great if you only have a couple keys and don't want them rattling around or poking you in your pocket. A USB bushing for that version is also included.

Instructions:

Files are organized by prefix. "KH_long" refers to the long length, which is roughly equivalent to Marrrs' design. "KH_short" refers to the short version, about 10mm shorter than the long one. "KH_stub" refers to the stub version as shown in black in the images above.

Print at least one part A and one part B of the same size, or two part A pieces if you need to use two zip ties. Thread the zip tie through part A and add your first set of keys. Then thread the zip tie through part B and add the rest of your keys. For the stub version you'll thread the tie through all of your keys on both passes. Finish by closing the zip tie tightly and trimming it flush.

Print Settings

Printer:

Wanhao Duplicator i3

Rafts:

Doesn't Matter

Supports:

No

Notes:

Print all objects flat with the faces that have openings facing upwards. For the regular key holders this means the chamfered edges should be on the print bed; for the stub version the chamfers should be facing upwards. Don't use supports, as they will be impossible to remove.

Category: Organization
