A slightly overengineered solution to get your phone mounted somewhere, f.e. in your car.
This mount grabs your Phone from both sides, it will fit phones approx. 105 mm - 50 mm wide.

Assembly

You will need to print:

1x - body

1x - spur gear

2x - jaw (m3/m4 depending on the type of screw you want to hook your spring/rubber band to)

(1x- garmin gps adapter) The hardware you need:

2x - 6mm rod, 120mm long (as guide for the jaws to slide on)

1x - 6mm rod, 23mm long (as axle for the spur gear)

2x - M4 x 15 (or M3 x 15)

2x - Springs (dia. 10mm, free length ~ 25mm) OR a rubber band

4x - M3 x 10 flat head screws (for garmin gps adapter)

To assemble the phone mount start by placing the gear in the body, and secure it by partially inseting the 6mm x 23mm axle into the body.

Now bring the two springs in place and secure them by fully inserting the axle into the body.

Push the two 6mm x 120mm rods trough the hole in the top and botoom of the body. You can use longer rods if you desire to mount a wider phone. Use smooth rods (f.e. brass). I used anodized aluminium rods, but there was quite a lot of friction between the rods and the jaws. After some polishing and with the help of some teflon spray it worked well in the end (i think brass rods work better in this situation, atleast with PLA).

Slide on the two jaws (you'll propably need to drill out the holes for the 6mm rods a bit). This can be a bit tricky, as both jaws need to mesh with the spur gear .

Screw your M4/M3 screw into the back side of each jaw.

Hook your springs/rubber band up to the screws in the jaws and you are done! Sadly the .gif that I animated doesn't work (it would've shown the assembly)

Printer:

Anet A8

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Yes

Resolution:

0.2

Infill:

20%

Filament: Das Filament PLA White

Notes:

Printing

* I Printed the main body laying on its side.

Print the jaws with the text facing the printbed, and support for the gear rack. I guess you could also print them standing up with support, but the gear rack mighty turn out rough.

You can print the garmin adapter laying flat without support, but it should be easy to remove if your printer struggles with bridging (says the one with the Anet A8...).

I prefer thicker walls over infill, print as you desire.

Category: Mobile Phone
