Give your plant the good life with this self-watering planter. For houseplants, here are a few tips: Use a soil mixture of 1/2 coconut coir, 1/2 soil, with some perlite sprinkled in there for extra drainage. If your plant requires more drainage, add more perlite. Our basil is thriving and the cat approves. Just because it is self-watering doesn't mean it needs water all the time. Houseplants like to dry out between waterings. Use a piece of rope to connect the water basin with the soil. Any water in the basin will diffuse into the soil as long as it is touching the rope. Burry the rope deep into the soil.
