T50RP in an HD58x shell This is a niche mod for those of you who have access to a 3d printer AND have a 58x and t50rp drivers, but for those of you who do i recommend you try this. This takes the grainy hd58x and the bland sound signature of the T50RP and makes something useful from them both. Modding the Grill: -Remove the metal grill by gently pulling on the plastic ring it is attached to at the top of the driver. If you have troubles with this you can also remove the grill from the front by removing the pads and foam from the front, then sticking a screw driver through one of the holes towards the sides of the headphone to push the metal grill off from the back. -Remove the metal grill from its plastic ring, the original plastic ring will not fit with this mod, you will need to print the included modified "senny cup ring" model(print it twice, once mirrored). -Insert the metal grills into the new "senny cup rings" if yours doesn't have an interference fit then you may need to use some glue, i recommend you apply the glue to the grill first then insert it into the print. Removing t50rp driver: -To remove the t50rp driver simply pull off the pads and unscrew the 4 perimeter screws to remove the driver mounting plate, then the 3 inner screws to remove the driver itself. -Desolder the driver from the headphone and make sure to keep the square foam seal that was between the driver and the driver mounting plate.(I recommend you don't desolder the wire from the t50rp driver if you dont have good temperature control on your iron and to just re-use it for this mod.) Removing the 58x driver: -remove the cable from the headphone. -To remove the 58x driver after you have taken off the metal grill there are 4 mounting tabs around the driver itself, they have a little bit of glue on them, carefully scratch off the glue with a project knife or other sharp object. -Pull gently on the wire housing that goes from the driver down to where you plug in the cable in at, until the driver and the wire housing come out as one unit. Be sure not to remove the rubber o ring that goes between the clear driver housing and the frame. -pull the driver out of the wire housing, then desolder the tiny springs attached to the cables, these are what the cable plugs into. Modding the headphone: -solder a 2 inch wire to each of the pads on the drivers and solder the tiny springs onto the ends of those. -screw them onto the driver adapter print then insert the springs into the wire housing, you can just wrap the wire underneath of the wire housing as there is enough of a gap under that that it wont interfere, see picture. -the whole assembly should just snap into place in the 58x housing after that. -the cable may need to be inserted with some force the first time if your overhangs are sh*t. Thanks to Plexi for donating the drivers for this mod. If you need help with printing? Have questions about the desings? Want to keep up with what we're prototyping?
