The design presented includes a full assembly of 5-speed sequential transmission including a reverse gear. The gear ratios have been tested and calculated accordingly, all of which have been translated into the exact measurements required to create the Spur Gears. The gear selection mechanism is actuated by a selector shaft which in return is operated by a rack and pinion assembly. Furthermore, the friction of the aluminium alloyed shafts has been reduced with the help of custom made conical and traditional metallic bearings. All components have been designed meticulously from scratch in CATIA V5, and with the completion of this type of transmission, a better understanding of the working principles of a sequentially actuated gearbox has been deducted.
